Building a Wood Gate
To build a wooden gate you will need a stick, point the metal plates to protect the gate, diagonal piece of wood to fortify the gates, timber screening to the gate hinges, screws or bolts to hang the gate, gate latch to secure the timber to stop and strip gate.
Step 1 – Determine Location for the gate
While construction of the fence, you may decide you want the gate. When setting your fence posts to gauge where you want to open your door and set appropriate posting. Be sure to open the gates to measure the square posts at the top and bottom. the same size means that the square gate post. If they do not square you will need to readjust your post to the new portal allows you to hang properly.
Step 2 – Prepare a Frame Gate
The next step is to build a frame for your door. Determine the width of your door by measuring the distance between your posts and reduce the ½ inch, ¾ inch or greater weight to the gate. Cut your wood gate frame required length. You will need 4 pieces. For butt joints cut into 2 pieces of wood the width of the gate. Then cut two more pieces to make your gate the desired height. Make sure you keep your gate when the assembly square. To strengthen your arches, cut a piece of wood to be placed diagonally from the top hinge side gate down the side of the gate. Secure with nails.
Step 4 – Hang Gate
Ultimately, you are now ready to hang your gate to posts. Start by attaching the hinge to frame your gate. Hold the gate in the opening post where the gate will hang. Attach the hinges to post. Next, determine where you want to hook to your gate. You can attach it either on top or side of the gate. There are several types of hooks are available in your local hardware or wood shop. Once you have installed the hinges and BOLT, near the gate and sign in at the edge of the post near the BOLT. Cut a long piece of wood and nail it to the gate post to stop the gate.
