How to Add an Electrical Outlet Next to a Light Switch
Even a beginner can add electrical outlets to turn on the switch that is already in operation in his home. What is needed is a basic understanding of electrical connections, the right tools and materials, and a lot of good care.
The things you need:
* Electric container
* Wall plates
* Wire stripper
* Needle nose pliers
* Electric wire
* Electric circuit tester
* Drywall saw
* Drywall bracket
Step 1 – Power Switch
Turn off the power at your circuit breaker panel, the most important step in connecting an electrical outlet.
Step 2 – Prepare to Connect Wires
Remove the wall plate and the screws that hold the switch in place. Pull out the switch, and find the electric cable, black, white, and bare, and their connecting terminals.
Step 3 – Install Electrical Box
In Drywall close your switch, cut a hole that will fit your electrical box and tighten the place.
Step 4 – Connect Cable
Cut a length of Romex wire to fit between the switch and the hole you cut, and strip insulation from both ends, and your cable ends are connected to the terminal switch, matching color wire then connect the other end of the cable into the container.
Step 5 – Finish
Switch pairs of holes and their place, replaced the wall plate, and turn the power back.
